400mm is actually the standard size vertically for the mounting holes on most newer large screen TVs, and if you do the math, it is very close to 16" (15.75"). Most of the mounting arms have slots, so you can put in the top screw and then there is plenty of room for the bottom screw - and the mount comes with multiple screws in different diameters to fit most TVs, along with spacers to fit the arm to the TV in case the back isn't flat.
