This device does not pick up local or basic cable channels. If you already have that, this device adds additional services like ESPN and Netflix (but you need a subscription for that).

Technically no. There are apps you can get with Roku's service that lets you watch some local channels but only if that broadcaster puts the app out there.

There are some local channels from all over the US. Also the GO streaming channel can be used to get local news anytime but it may be streamed from major cities only not sure if GO has small town channel.

Yes, this model but not the Tivo Bolt +. This model will accept M Cards from your local cable provider and/or you can use an HD antenna. We chose the M Card route.
