it will stay connected to wifi as long as it has power, it does not send or receive signals during idle mode though just pings the router to make sure it has connection

And if you forget to stop your current stream and shut the TV off they will still play in the background, at least for some time.

Shouldn't be of any concern even if you are on a metered connection. If you use a TV USB port that isn't always on, then the stick will be completely turned off when the TV isn't turned on.
