the warranty starts when you sign up with direct tv go. you wont have to worry about waiting to start the free month

Warranty would start when item is purchased, one month of DirecTV now starts when you activate the app (credit card required to take advantage of free trial)

After purchase and setup of the Roku, there are a whole bunch of apps on TV screen to choose from. Some are free and some are monthly charge. You will find that out when you click on the apps. I used the free time for the DirectvNow app and because it had all of the TV channels that I watch, I did the pay subscription after the free time was up. Perfect! I am 71-year old woman and so I need convenience and low price. It is great!

You will need WIFI and a modem... If you purchase your own modem but then it is yours (no monthly) and is inexpensive.

I think the Directv month begins when you initially set up the Roku.
