Depends on what programming u are wanting to watch. So smart tvs don't have the apps roku does, depends on ur brand tv, a lot of tv brands lack app updates for their tvs...

I am not sure what Broadway HD is however you only need the Roku to get apps that your smart TV doesn't have. I have two smart TVs and I need the Roku to watch Sling TV and Acorn TV because those apps are not available on my smart TVs. I don't need my Roku to watch Netflix, VUDU, Hulu or Amazon because those apps are available on my smart TVs.

Broadway HD won't play on most Smart TVs. The Roku stick works with Broadway HD with a subscription.

Broadway HD will not play on most Smart TVs. You will specifically need a Smart TV that has a built in browser that supports Adobe Flash for the online videos. As for the Roku stick, Broadway HD works just fine. Sidenote: you will need a subscription, you can't just rent individual shows on the Roku channel.
