I have both and I like the Roku much better. The Chromecast device often hangs or drops which is a pain. The Roku device doesn't appear to do that. I will say that my roku device is wired (not wifi) and that may be part of the difference. Like anything, your mileage may vary.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you are trying to mirror the laptop or android device screen, go with Chrome. Otherwise, they do just about the same thing...
I would recommend:
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I only have experience with the ROKU combined with SlingTV. I am very pleased with ROKU and the smooth operation of the internet streaming.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, as far as I know, roku has a search feature that searches all streaming channels, even ones you may not have loaded or be subscribed to. I know my friends Amazon fire doesn't do that..dunno bout Chromecast tho...just know it's cheaper..
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have both and I definitely use Roku way more than Chromecast. However it depends on what you want to do. Chromecast is good to mirror movies and programming from your android phone apps, on your PC via Google Chrome or the Videosream app and it works with a few things on my iPad and iPhone too. With Chromecast all the content is being mirrored from your phone, PC or tablet. So basically what you see on your android device you will see it on your tv. Roku on the other hand loads doesn't need another device to work (except internet access). Basically when you get a Roku you sign up for an account and then you can start selecting channels that interest you. There are sooooo many channels! 98% are free and there are even hidden channels too. There are the most popular channels like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu as well as lesser known channels such as Frightpix which offers free horror movies. There are news, weather, cooking, how to and children's channels as well as every type of movie and tv genre ever made. I also plug in my portable hard drive to my Roku 3 and watch hundreds of movies that way too.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. They both have benefits and downsides. A chromecast requires another device to stream the content to it, so essentially any app on an android device can be streamed to the chromecast. Roku has applications that are standalone and will only require the Roku to access the content.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I cannot tell you by first-hand knowledge. However, the new Roku stick has a quad-core processor in it. It is nearly as fast as my Roku4K, which also has a quad-core processor in it. Speed is also determined by your wireless signal speed, strength, and type. There's more to choosing than simply speed. You should determine what viewing options there are for the different brands of Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, and Amazon Fire. I like Roku viewing options over my Apple TV's options. But, competition is great for the consumer. Things just keep getting better. The $15 upcharge (list price) of the 2016 Roku stick over the Chromecast stick was not an issue for me.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Roku is much better than the Chromecast. I have both because the Chromecast is nice during March Madness, but that's about the only time I use it. Chromecast is cheaper, but the extra cost of Roku is worth it, especially if you can find it cheaper. If you can watch it on your phone or tablet or computer, Chromecast can probably put it on your TV. The downside? There's no separate remote, so you'll need your phone or tablet or computer to use it. Roku + Plex is an amazing combo and about all you need for your entertainment needs.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm not too familiar with Chromecast. Roku does not require you to use a phone or a tablet. I prefer Roku. It's very easy to use, unlike Chromecast (especially on iOS, Chromecast was extremely limited)
