A:AnswerNo it is already equipped to vent out into the kitchen which does put the hot air back in the kitchen. So the only reason you would install a ventilation shaft is if you don't want the hot air released back into the kitchen. I just bought this microwave and it will be installed next week, mine will be vented back into my kitchen because I don't have a vent shaft. I hope this helped. Also, I want to comment on the fact that there seems to be some confusion about this microwave being mounted over the stove. So I just want to call attention to the title of this microwave because it states this is an Over-the -Range Microwave. Range and stove are the same, so yes it does mount above the Range/Stove. The only way I can see that you wouldn't be able to mount it over the Range is if you have a free standing stove with no cabinets above the stove or on the sides of it like my father who lives in a older home.
