• They do not need to be uncovered. But you need to determine how you are going to vent it. If you don't have an exhaust vent through the roof you will have to rotate the blower motor on the back to blow the other direction. The instructions are in the packet that comes with the microwave.

• No....it can vent on top of door or from the top to an outsode vent....
