When the fridge is installed and turned on, the freezer and refrigerator temps are both pre-set for optimal performance. So, there's no guessing. But you can change either temp very easily if needed. I live in Texas and bought mine in July. I didn't know if the preset temps would do here in the 100+ temps of Summer, but it's been just fine! Haven't had to touch it.
