“I just bought the Samsung model #MEM706BAS for installation above the oven, built in to the cabinets. If the filter needs changing, does the unit need to be taken down and then reinstalled, or is there a way to change it without doing that?”

You do not have to uninstall or do anything difficult. The filter is located on the bottom front of the oven. Just push the black front edge of the filter toward the back. Then the filter will release. Then just pull/slide it out. Wash it, let dry. Then slide the filter right back in. Very easy.

This model actually has two filters; a grease filter that should be cleaned about once a month, and a charcoal filter that will need to be replaced every 6-12 months. However, neither of these filters will require you to uninstall the microwave in order to access them. According to pages 31 and 32 of the user manual (https://bit.ly/3Agqbs2) the grease filter is located underneath the microwave, and the charcoal filter can be found inside the microwave compartment. ^Jecca
