“How do you know the monitor is turned on? I can't get it do do anything but toggle between HDMI and Display.....the screen is black.... It is not showing up on my Lap top, It says "no devices detected". argh!”

This is an issue I had with mine which is why I returned it. Try unplugging the HDMI cable and plugging it back in. You should have to do this every time and if you do then return it.
