The 5300 is 720p and the 5500 is 1080p. To put it simply, the 1080p is a higher quality HD picture than the 720p. In smaller screen sizes, the difference is not as noticeable as in the larger screen sizes. Personally for the small difference in price between the 2 models, I purchased the 5500 to get the better picture quality.

I believe one of the differences was the sound, the mounting bracket and another the potential pixels. I am just a customer, though, and not a pro or salesperson. Good luck!
