The apps that are on the TV (i.e., programs that the TV uses to interface with vendors such as Netflix, Amazon, etc.) are software that can be updated. For the most part, the software on this television will be in synch with the compatible companies as long as they are streaming content. I think it's the firmware that you're actually referencing a concern for in your question. In the end, like computers, cellphones, and tablets, you don't purchase a smart TV with the assumption that you'll own and use it for 15 years as people did when they purchased a Curtis Mathis TV in 1982.

If you're looking for this size, it's a great TV with a great picture for the price, you have to go for it and deal with any obsolescence as it comes...that's just the world we live in now. Besides, it's not like analog TVs didn't go extinct. The TV will always work; worst case scenario - you have to hook a new streaming device to it later.
