“How do I get this TV to switch sources automatically when it detects a new signal? (Ex. Switch to HDMI when turning on the Playstation, switching to Component/AV when turning on whatever's plugged in there, etc.) What about auto power-on?”

My J5500 doesn't switch automatically doesn't auto switch with new signals. you'll have to make the switch via the remote by pressing the source button which shows your connections, then pressing either the left arrow or the right arrow buttons to get the desired connection.
