“If I use this as a monitor for my Macbook Air via a display port to hdmi cable, will I be able to adjust the screen brightness & volume of the monitor?? I tried a ViewSonic monitor and couldn't adjust the volume from my external keyboard.”

First of all, this monitor doesn't have speakers so you'd have to use your laptop speakers. You can adjust the brightness of the monitor by using the button on the back and going to the monitor's settings, but you cannot adjust monitor brightness from a laptop.
