Yes the subwoofer is wireless and no you do not have to connect it to the tv. However, the subwoofer does require power, so not it is not entirely wireless. The sound bar acts as a base to send signal to the surround speakers and the subwoofer. The surround module requires power and signal cables to go to the surround speakers, but nothing has to connect across the room to the tv. In fact if you have a new tv that will connect wirelessly to the sound bar you don't even have to plug in the optical cable to the sound bar. My tv is a few years old so I am using the optical cable option. This unit will only accept signal from either the wireless option or the optical option, no HDMI plugs on this. Besides that I think it sounds pretty good. I have it in my bedroom, Surround speakers are 23' away from the tv and everything works great. Be aware you may have to tell the source device what type of sound to output to get true surround.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi! The subwoofer will need to be plugged in to an outlet to provide power, and will then wirelessly connect to the soundbar. ^Tim
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Wireless. The rear speakers are wired to their wireless remote tower, though
