“We do not have cable, only Direct TV via satellite. Is this TV the best one for our situation? Internet is through Hughesnet, also a satellite, with limited download so we cannot view Netflix, etc without spending a fortune for excess usage.”

You can use this TV, the question if it's right for your situation? That's something only you can answer. I would recommend turning on Film mode in picture options due to your cable provider. Film mode will enhance low quality video.

So, yes Direct TV will work as you have a receiver that you can connect to the One Connect box using HDMI. The additional smart features that the TV provides, such as Netflix will consume internet data though.
