Hi Karen, We would love to provide details to your question about this Samsung range model. If your kitchen is not well-vented, then a range hood or an over-the-range microwave is recommended to remove heat, steam, and cooking odors from the kitchen area. This range model is not equipped with a telescoping downdraft system. Samsung at this point does not produce a telescoping downdraft system, you may have to look for a compatible brand to work with this Samsung range model. Leo
