Hello Triadkid, This model will upscale incoming content to fit the screen of the TV. This process will increase the pixel count of a lower-resolution image, allowing a picture meant for a screen with fewer pixels to fit a screen with many more. It's important to remember that since the amount of information in the signal doesn't change, there won't be more detail present. ^Michelle

I have comcast..I had to call for a new router and box to get the best experience from my tv. It's amazing. I'd assume all carriers have 4k connection they'd probably have to just come out and change something. Not sure ho w direct tv works besides the dish. If still has a amazing picture on 1080 connection you can see the difference. . It's beautiful even if ypou can't run the 4k but id sat get it if you can. Your still going tpo get a better picture regardless just not it's full potential. I had to run mine 2 weeks on 2080 before my equipment came.
