I currently run this drive without a heatsink, and have been using it for roughly a month. I have transferred a ~250 GB to the drive while also playing a game during the transfer, and didn't see temps higher than 50°C. So in my experience I do not believe a heatsink is required. Now my ambient temperature in the room is typically 68-70°F, this could change my testing if I was running in a hotter room.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I did buy a heatsink for my desktop pc this drive is installed in and it never gets over 40*C under stress conditions (heavy gaming sessions). Averages 30*C during idle times. So, not sure if the heatsink was overkill in my case or not :) YMMV
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It depends on your motherboard and case airflow, no issues on my ASUS Crosshair so far
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. To get the best performance from a m-2 cooler you must removed the drive label. Samsung clearly states in their warranty that removing that label voids the warranty. That said I have several and none have had a heat problem. I don't game and that is a factor.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Most times your motherboard will have some sort of heatsink built in to help cool it. If not, I would recommend a heatsink separately if you intend to sustain heavy read / writes.
