The bag is in the front of the station. The front cover comes off easily and the new bags get inserted easily as well. As far as your question about how long it takes for the bag to fill up is concerned, that would depend on how much and what you are vacuuming up. I am usually only vacuuming kitty litter and kibble so I only have to replace the bag maybe every 4 or 5 weeks. If you are vacuuming pet hair or something of that consistency then you would have to re- place the bags more often.
