I was charged $40.00 from Verizon. It was called an upgrade charge. I've been with Verizon for over 20 years.
What a ripoff...

While your sales person might have been lazy and did not know that there was an activation charge, but should have confirmed with someone who was sure, there is a way out. Call Verizon after you get charged and if you're a good customer for a long time and don't act aggressive like the answer on getting "screwed," Verizon will credit the activation charge. They did for me.

Yes, I didn't know and did ask and was told no. Verizon charges a $40.00 upgrade charge.
I got screwed!!!

There will be a $40 fee assessed by Verizon that will show up on the next bill. It's an upgrade fee.

I asked Verizon about that yesterday. There are actually TWO charges - if you buy your phone from a national retailer or "indirect" company, that company will charge a "set up fee" that's separate from Verizon's "Upgrade". Verizon charges 1/2 rate - $20 - if you do the Upgrade yourself on-line - $40 if they do it for you. (Pieces of the pie to everyone.)
