Depends upon the carrier. AT&T and Verizon are now doing 3 year agreements + device lease payments. T-mobile allows you to choose 1 or 2 year agreements + lease payments. If you pay in full, at least with most carriers, they require you to wait 60 days before taking the phone and number with you to another carrier.
