“I currently have Metro PCS which has Wi-Fi calling and Mobile Hotspot feature on the phone. I am wondering if I were to switch to a unlock Samsung S8 would i loose this features on the S8. The Samsung S8 does not have these apps preinstalled.”

Since MetroPCS is own by tmobile and uses tmobile network, WiFi calling and Mobile Hotspot will work. They are built into samsung software. When you load the sim card for the first time the phone will configure for your carrier automatically (it did for T-Mobile).
