“Can someone please explain why so many buy this tablet which is wifi only (no cellular capability)? For anyone that leaves home even just to run errands this tablet would be of no use. I would be very interested except for this issue.”

I have only purchased wifi only tablets as I do not want to pay for another cellular device and data. I predominately use my tablet at home. If I take it somewhere with me, I either have apps that will not require wifi, or will have access to public wifi.
