• Keyboard acts like a cover for the tablet yes. Keyboard is definitely super expensive... So typing on this tablet better be worth it for the buyer.

• The keyboard cover is an optional accessory. For $350, I can't recommend it. I opted for a cheap Bluetooth keyboard and mouse with a basic cover instead.
