The Gear VR doesn't HAVE a display, it utilizes the one on the Note 4. This wording could cause people to purchase it, and unable to use it due to lack of a built in display.”

If you read the description fully it is right there in the title. The are two versions, Note 4 and the Galaxy 6. Wasn't even remotely ambiguous for me.

yes that is funny without your phone you cannot see through it , it also have touch button and scrollpad on the side and those take power through the phone

Yes, but if you have a Samsung tv, you can see your VR image on that TV by using the screen mirroring function

Correct. You must have the note 4 as it is the display for the Gear VR.
