Google Doc's is always free and can be used within the Chrome Browser on this laptop. However, this laptop does not come with any Microsoft word or office access. That is a separate product/purchase. However, if you use office.com within Chrome Browser, you can create word documents/excel documents within the Browser and it's also free. It's only when you want their apps installed on a PC or in this case, the Chromebook - that they want a subscription/purchase. I personally like using Microsoft OneDrive with Word online so I can access all my documents and edit them easily within any browser on any operating system. But it's important to note you can only do this in your browser at office.com after you create an account. This is not like the old school days of "installing office".
