• no you just plug hdmi cable to tv, and select the dvd hdmi and watch your dvd.

• The only passwords needed are the WiFi password for your network, and any subscription apps like Netflix, Hulu, etc.. There is also the ability to enter parental password if you choose. Other than the mentioned, there is no password requirements.
