“Can the thermal material melt and leak from the edges if the drive overheats? I have seen on Youtube of the original T7 leaking along the edges of the drive when the drive overheated under heavy read/write load but I don't have the original T7.”

It hasn't happened yet and we use these for offloading after filming 4K footage and also create a backup using the original so that's a pretty heavy use for 3-4 hours oftentimes. That being said, we don't like the thermal material because we can't label it (nothing sticks to this weird material). So we have to use paint pens.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have used mine for pretty heavy loads (transfers for over an hour) and it never gets VERY hot. It gets warm but not hot like other drives I have used in the past, so I don't think it should ever get to the point of "overheating". I have had it in a backpack where some water leaked out, it got a little moist and so far no issues.
