“Has anyone made it work with Audible on Windows 7? I can't. I tried to update firmware, but the Sansa firmware Updater does not seem to recognize that my Clip Sport Plus is connected via USB (though the "My Computer" screen shows that it is).”

With Audible, you need the Audible software to play the audible files. That is unless you get the Audible conversation converting software. In that, there may be a suitable player codex; however, I believe the application is still required and there isn't much of an OS on these things.
