if you don't need the benefit of vault, yes formatting will do as long as specific type of format's supported by your device.

Move it go the trash and empty the trash before removing the drive

You my have to use the password you have used to unlock it, or if you haven't used a password yet you can just right click it and choose format, this reformats it and that vault program will be gone.
