• Yes it is. I've used it with Windows 7 to download pictures from my wife's IPhone and transfer them onto the flash drive. That way it frees up space on her IPhone for more pictures and doesn't exist on my pc hard drive in case of a catastrophic failure.

• There is no reason you can't copy your photos unless you have a work laptop or desktop where administrators have disabled USB access.
