“Why is it trying to sell me a USB-C drive when I specifically selected that I was only searching for Thunderbolt drives? Does this drive support both kinds of connections? Not seeing any mention of Thunderbolt associated with this product. Confused.”

A definitive answer isn’t possible….but you can be pretty sure if it doesn’t mention thunderbolt, it isn’t thunderbolt. It comes up in your searches for thunderbolt because usb-c and thunderbolt are directly compatible, meaning usb-c will work in a thunderbolt port, It’s true that thunderbolt is theoretically twice as fast, but that doesn’t mean it would be. Other benefits thunderbolt offers beyond usb-c aren’t applicable for backup drive data transfer, such as use for relaying video as display port. If you need it to be thunderbolt, find one that states it is…..I’d guess as a rule of thumb that with thunderbolt being “better”, a company would definitely state thunderbolt in its description, not leave you to guess…..on the flip side, if a company leaves you to guess, they are probably using usb-c and hoping a buyer looking for thunderbolt simply assumes it is and buys. Ultimately, you should take a look online about the differences between the two, etc., and briefly educate yourself.
