It's a 24 inch mount so you can get about an added 8 inch (most likely less) just from the mount. I got around this completely by adding a longer (attractive) support board across the wall behind the TV. My TV was 83 in diagonal so it covers most everything behind. It also added the advantage of moving the TV slightly forward allow easier access to the back connections to the TV. Can't tell the difference.
