Incorrect answer above, this is an HDD, meaning it has a spinning disk, and yes running it continuously does shorten the life, however by how much is hard to say, some last for decades, others die after 6 months. Is best to power off when not in use to protect the entire system anyway, so not a huge concern.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It is a SSD.. Solid state drive... So it has no moving parts. It is idle most of the time and basically all the time when not being used. I have one for the series x and have had it for years and it works perfectly. Just bought a second for series s. Also works perfectly. No need to worry about wearing. There is nothing spinning inside of it. Should last a good long time for you.
