External HDs work with the next gen. consoles, but most games that are optimized for the Series S/X can only be played from the internal HD or their proprietary Seagate expandable HD they sell for $220 that plugs into the port on the back. If you have a game that's optimized for next gen. it will simply not do anything when you click on it to play it if it is existing only on this external HD. The work around is simply moving the next gen. optimized games you want to play to the internal HD when you are wanting to play them, and then back to the external HD when you are just needing them stored and free up space on the internal HD.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes it does. Works perfectly. Basically plug and play. One step to do inside xbox under storage options (formatting). Super easy works great.
