The speeds at which it can retrieve the data is still going to be slower than the internal SSD or the storage expansion cards. You can use this to play backwards compatible games from the original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One generations. Additionally, you can store the Series X/S games on it, but those games will need to be transferred to internal storage or an expansion card before you can play them.
