“When I plug in the unit it charges the headset but the power light on the front of the unit is not lit and it does not output sound. Is the unit defective?”

On the right ear phone, press (and hold for 2-3 seconds) the small power button. A green light will light up on the headset unit right above the power button. Simultaneously, the base unit lights will light up — especially if you thereafter hit the “base” or “surround sound” buttons on the right earphone. If no sound broadcasts from the main unit to your headset, then your connection from your base-to-television is either not tightly connected or, possibly, not in the correct “sound out” connection on your television. We have a Directv box & had to plug it into the Directv box unit’s “sound out” plug rather than the television. A wonderful source of help is the Sennheiser website — the “chat box” techie can get you through it and, if not, will get you to technical support. We bought this unit because the single base supports TWO headphones (we alternate charging) & obviously bought an additional headset. These are, hands down, outstanding headsets with outstanding sound.
