• The canister has two clips that release at the bottom or the top. It easily empties and does not make a mess (I empty directly into the bottom of the garbage bag to keep dust from flying up).

• The canister is fully detachable and I take it to my garbage and shake it out. Now honestly there might be a few dust particles that may escape when shaking but trust me it's well worth it knowing that your carpet and floors are fully clean and free from allergens

• Hello Roxy, Thank you for your question. The Shark - Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe Bagless Upright Vacuum is very easy to empty. Simply, Undo the latches on the sides of the dust cup by lifting them up and outwards to remove the dust cup from the motor base. Hold the dust cup over a trash receptacle and press the bottom door release button. Tap gently to empty contents. Press the door shut again until it clicks. Kind regards, Customer Care Team
