I do my stairs all the time with this vacuum. You have to be holding the canister, or I just rest it on the stair behind me. The canister pops right off of the vacuum, so it won't be the entire vacuum cleaner on the steps. I hope this helps.

It's fairly light weight, but you still have to hold it in one hand while you vacuum with the other hand using the stairs attachement . I love this vacuum. I can finally vacuum under beds without having to move the bed. It is the most powerful vacuum I have ever owned.
