I would have no idea what the capacity of the bin is, but I can say it is a very powerful machine. Having multiple pets it really picks up everything and fills up with pet hair quickly. I can usually clean one floor of the house, about 1,000 sq. ft before it needs to be emptied. It depends on what is being vacuumed. Pet hair takes up more space in the bin then say dirt or dust would. It's not really an issue, just push the tab and pull it out, empty it and continue cleaning. I would also say the bright light on this model really shows dirt (and pet hair) you don't normally see. You end up cleaning more thoroughly because of the bright light, which of course fills up the bin more. It's also very nice to be able to detach the bin and vacuum with just the bottom part. It goes under most furniture pretty far.
