I had them loud and my wife was next to me on the couch. She tought she might have heard them but had no idea what was playing and wasn't bothered. I would say from a practicle standpoint, no. they play mostly from the check bones and then fill in from a tiny speaker on the front pod. I have been using them for several weeks and it was only one time that my bride thought she may have heard something. Unless your significant other is a bat, you are probably good.
