• The lock can be operated by the included keypad without a Simplisafe subscription. But without a subscription, you will not be able to use the phone app to lock and unlock the door.

• Nope, a subscription is not required. The Smart Lock does need to be added to an existing SimpliSafe system, but you can use the whole system and access it through the app (including locking and unlocking the Smart Lock) without a subscription.
