• Yes you need the base station, but don't go down that path. I have foung Simplisafe accessories to be junk. I got myself invested too far into this system and am sorry for it.

• The Smart Lock is a component for the complete SimpliSafe home security system. In order to use functions such as locking/unlocking through the SimpliSafe app, the Smart Lock does need to be paired to a SimpliSafe Base Station.
