It is powered by the same two wires that would connect to your existing doorbell, and does also have a built in battery as well, but it needs that constant electrical connection

Wired means you use the same wires attached to your doorbell, however your transformer must be an AC 16-24V rated. The camera also has a battery which must be charger periodically. If neither of these options work for you then be prepared to spend more money to have this capability! It is the same for every type of Doorbell cameras available.

It is hardwired into your existing doorbell wiring. I just took out my old push button door bell, and wired the two existing wires into the Simplisafe doorbell. Worked first time.

I can’t tell you where the camera was sourced from. 
I didn’t pay attention to that on the box. 
The camera is powered by the two wires that powered your original doorbell button.
