Will slingbox allow me to watch local channels and network channels like these? If I cancel uverse, and give them back their equipment, all I have left is Wii, SmartTV and slingbox, if I purchase it. Would I have what I need to watch cable-like channels?”

The slingbox is only used to transmit your existing video (in your case ATT UVerse) to the internet so you can watch it remotely. If you disconnect the service, you'd have to find a friend or family member that would let you hook up to their TV in order to have what you would need to view the channels.

All sling box does is what shows up on your TV, will stream out over the internet to your device (TV or smart phone/tablet) and you can watch is remotely. And the sling box remote will act like a remote to your cable TV box and you can change channels on the cable TV box.
