If I understand your question the answer is yes. You actually have a virtual remote control that is part of the Slingbox setup software that will allow you to turn on your cable box just like you were sitting in your home. You turn on the power and presto the video is coming to you wherever you are. when you are done you turn it off and it'll turn off the cable box back in the US. I hope that answers your question.
