Yes, the Sonance MAG6R speakers can work outside as you describe however, they are not designed to be used in areas that would expose them to excessive heat, cold, water, moisture, etc. Installing the speakers in a place that is open to outside elements could shorten the expected usable life of the speaker, so we do not recommend installing/exposing them to these environments.

A:AnswerWhile there are certified Dolby Atmos speakers, they are not necessary. Your receiver is the biggest factor in sound setup. You can use these speakers in the Dolby Atmos arrangement.

A:AnswerGarage yes, patio...that is iffy. They're not technically outdoor speakers, but I would feel confident if this was installed in an outdoor ceiling (screened porch or sun room) where they would be protected 100% from precipitation. If it's just under an eave, then no way.
A:AnswerI have a 5.1.4 system and use the Mag6r's in the ceiling. I used the sonance visual performance 6-1/2" 2-way in-wall speaker for my center channel speaker. And holy crap does it sound amazing. The best buy theater guru informed me the center channel would not be a speaker to skimp on. It is pricey, but well worth it.
