I'm not sure how the FM antenna connects to your 550 receiver, but my 770 has a flimsy thin white insulated wire that has a plug connector on one end and an open end on the other. It says it is recommended that once plugged in that the wire be extended horizontally as far as possible. I didn't even bother with that and rigged a connector on the open end and connected it directly to my FM roof antenna. With that fix it works perfectly. I also have an older Sony Receiver DG910 and it has a coaxial FM antenna input and an AM antenna as well. It seems Sony doesn't think getting good FM or any Am reception is necessary now a days.

It's better then other receivers but it depends how far away a radio station is. I have one across from my neighborhood so I get one popular channel that comes in well. These just aren't made for radio function. You would be better off paying the radio off of your phone or your computer or tv and since your receiver would be hooked up to that it would play the radio through the speakers you hook up.
